"RAY represents the diversity in the GLBTQ community. Meeting with others really helps break down the walls that stereotypes build."
-- Jackie, 16
Rainbow Area Youth - Toledo (RAY) was founded in 1997 after the mother of a gay child and two gay men met at an area meeting for Parents, Friends of Lesbians and Gays (P-FLAG). They realized that while families and friends often needed help understanding and accepting loved one's sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, there was also a need for those loved ones to gain similar understanding and additional peer support.
Since forming, RAY has served over 1,000 adolescents from more than 50 different schools in Northwest Ohio, Southeast Michigan, and Eastern Indiana.
